Shirley Jean Belisle (nee Bolton), 97, passed away on June 18, 2026, due to injuries sustained in a fall.
Even though Shirley was pushing 98 she was never a "little old lady". She was as tough and healthy as they came. Although dementia plagued her mind in the last 4 years, she still knew who everyone was, she just couldn’t remember 5 minutes ago, and she knew it. She would often tell us that she wouldn’t remember that we had been there visiting. We are convinced she would have lived well into her 100s had she not fallen.
Mom was born on November 19, 1928, in Danville, IL, the oldest of 2 children to Floyd and Margaret Bolton. Her younger brother, Jack, came along about two years after Shirley was born.
As a young girl, her family moved to Los Angeles CA where she recalled riding the bus by herself at the age of 10 in downtown LA. Clearly, times were different then.
At the young age of 19, after World War 2 had ended, she married Guy L. Tice in Los Angeles and they eventually settled in Green Bay WI where their 2 sons, Paul and Greg, were born.
Her marriage to Guy did not last and in 1968 she married Dr. Cletus Belisle. In 1980 they moved Doc's primary practice to Coleman, WI where they had family and many friends. Shirley was involved with the Coleman Area Rescue Squad for several years prior to their move to Arkansas in the late 1980's.
Shirley loved golfing and for the better part of 70 years she golfed the courses in Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Arizona. Shirley golfed in both a women’s and a men’s group weekly, but she did have her limits. Once, after golfing a full 18 holes in 103-degree temps, Shirley told her son Paul that she would only golf up to 104 degrees, after that it was just too hot. Shirley golfed until she was 88 years old and then she stopped, claiming she just wasn’t interested in golf anymore. While living in Arizona, she would drive her lady friends up to Laughlin, Nevada for weekends of gambling, and she would even drive herself to Austin, Texas to the Golfsmith factory to buy parts so she could build herself a new set of golf clubs.
When Shirley was in her early 60’s, while living in Bella Vista Arkansas, she decided to try something new and got her airplane pilot’s license. It was a one and done type of thing and she never flew a plane again.
But her will to try something new never waned. At age 87 she went on her first jet ski ride with her son, Greg.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack, her husband Clete and many other family and friends.
Survivors include her son Paul Tice (Michael) and son Greg Tice (Pammy) and grandchildren Christopher (Jennifer) Tice, Dustin (Sabrina) Tice, Tiffany Tice, Joe (Cheyenne) Tice, Micah Tice, and Bethany Tice, great-grandchildren Tristan, Sarah, William, Lola, and George, stepdaughters Rebecca Hobbs and Tracey Jacke.
The family would like to thank Shirley’s long-time friend, Bonnie, who faithfully visited Shirley almost every week the last 4 years and brought her little treats or took her to McDonalds for Shirley’s favorite…a chocolate shake. You’ve been a good friend, Bonnie! Thank you to the staff at Angel’s Touch for caring for Shirley-bird the last 4 years. You don’t get paid enough to do the job you do.
At Shirley's request, there will be no formal funeral service, the family will gather privately to honor her memory.
