Sharon Mae Benedum passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Blue Jay Springs, after a long battle with dementia.
Sharon was born March 12, 1940 to Mae and Harvey LeFevre. She graduated from Oconto Falls High school before marrying Russell Alsteen in 1961. Together they had three sons; Brian, Bart, and Brad.
Sharon worked for many years at Sure Way, and for Avon. She also worked for Schneider. Sharon’s welcoming voice was played for years as Schneider’s voice mail recording. She was a very dedicated and hard worker. After her retirement from Schneider, she worked at Shopko, “just for some fun money”.
In 1995 Sharon married Tom Benedum, whom she was happily married to until her passing.
Affectionately known as Nonni, Sharon was known for her deep love for her family. Especially her grandchildren, who cherished their Thursday gatherings at her house. These Thursdays were filled with cribbage (and you’d better be able to count all your 15 2’s) homemade cookies, music, and life lessons. Nonni’s door was always open, her coffee pot always on, and her words were always full of wisdom, (sometimes sarcastic), comfort, and prayer. Nonni lived her life as a woman of faith, sharing her generosity through her work at church, volunteering at St. John’s Ministry, donating blood, helping her neighbors, or leading Bible studies.
Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her boundless generosity and unwavering faith touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her warm spirit, her love of family, and her commitment to making the world a better place.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Nancy and Jean, brother Buddy, and infant daughter, Julie.
Sharon is survived by her husband Tom, her son Brian (Binky), Bart (Cathy), Brad, Michelle (Jamie). Her beloved grandchildren Caty, Luke (Miriam), Maisie, Joe, Libby, Isabella, Carly, Nathan, Sierra, Kennedy. Great grandchildren Russell, Ophelia, and Leo.
The family extends our heartfelt gratitude to Unity Hospice. We are very grateful to Ceicey at Blue Jay Springs for her compassionate care of our Nonni.
Sharon's visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (340 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay, WI 54301). With her Memorial Service to be held at 3:00 pm, with Pastor Sarah Hansen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. John’s Homeless Shelter.
Nonni, you will forever be missed. We treasure the memories we will always carry with us.
