Ronald J. Erickson

March 26, 1936 — September 4, 2023

Ronald J. Erickson, 87, passed away on September 4, 2023, after living in a memory care facility for two years. He was born in Eau Claire, WI on March 26, 1936, to Edith (Webber) and Chester Erickson. He married Lenore Wold in 1954 and graduated Eau Claire High School and UW- Eau Claire.

Ron loved life whether it was working or playing. He always said he wished everyone would enjoy their work as much as he did. While at the UWEC, he started his 38-year career in the television business employed by Post Corporation at WEAU TV-13 in Eau Claire. In 1966, he transferred to WLUK TV-11 in Green Bay as Production Manager. He loved every aspect of the TV business from climbing the 1000-foot TV towers and traveling with the Packers to producing live television events and films. He was very proud of awards won while managing a division of TV-11 called Image Works of Wisconsin.

Ron was an avid reader and a board member of the Friends of the Library where he ran the used book sale for many years. He also belonged to the Brown County Taxpayers Association. His hobbies included metal working, welding, woodworking and electronics. After retirement, he started his own company, Random Services, where he made and sold jibs and dollies used in video production. Ron was known to say, "You don't pay for anything that you can make yourself!"

Scuba diving in the Caribbean, walking the beach and dancing were some of Ron's favorite activities. Several winter trips were enjoyed in Jamaica and Belize. Summers were spent boating with family and friends on High Falls Flowage and meeting friends at Party and Geriatric Islands. He was never sorry he bought the two little "wood tents" on the big granite rock that he called "The BFR".

Ron will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by Lenore, his wife of 69 years and their children: Shawn and Debi (Mayo) Erickson, Layne and Joan (Hollenstein) Erickson, Ronette and Peter McCabe, Janev and M. Scott Smith; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his only sibling, Joanne Radandt.

Family and friends are invited to join at the Stadium View (1963 Holmgren Way) for a Celebration of Life Gathering for Ron on September 21, 2023, from 4-7 PM.

Ron always said, "Do not be sad when I depart, because I had a really good time!"
