Robert L. Ross, aged 93, a devoted husband, father, and distinguished serviceman, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in Sun City West, Arizona. Born on May 26, 1932, in New Holstein, Wisconsin, to Rueben and Margaret (Henschel) Ross, Robert’s life was marked by honor, dedication, and profound love.
He forged lifelong bonds early on at East High School, where he met the love of his life, Yolonda Soutieau. Upon graduating in 1951, Robert answered the call to service by enlisting in the United States Army. He married Yolonda shortly thereafter, embarking on a journey that saw him deploy to the Korean Conflict with great valor. His gallantry earned him both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After exploring other career paths, the military beckoned him once more, leading to an impressive 38-year tenure as a Command Sergeant Major in the Army Reserves, serving the communities of Green Bay and Kewaunee. Additionally, he dedicated himself as the Civilian Administrator of the Kewaunee Army Reserve Unit, exemplifying steadfast commitment until his retirement in 1992. Thereafter, Robert cherished every moment with Yolonda and his family.
Robert is lovingly remembered by his son Christopher (Mary) Ross of Sun City West; daughter Holly Ross Baril of DePere; daughter-in-law Ann Ross of Suamico; grandchildren Katie (Matt) Helmeid, Kristen (Blake Kobashigawa) Ross, Alex (Abbey) Baril, Brooke Baril, and Jonathan (Shuara) Ross; and great-grandchildren Dylan Helmeid, Mason Helmeid, Dani Kobashigawa, Gaby Kobashigawa, and Adalynn Baril. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Yolonda, son David, and brother Stewart Ross.
A visitation to honor Robert’s memory will be held at Newcomer Chapel, 340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. A memorial service, accompanied by full military honors, will follow at 10:00 AM, a fitting tribute to a life profoundly dedicated to family and country.
Robert L. Ross’s legacy endures in the hearts of those who knew him, a testament to a life lived with courage, love, and unwavering devotion.
