It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Higgins, 66, of Oconto, Wisconsin, following a battle with lung cancer. Robert passed peacefully at home on May 16, 2026.
Robert was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, in August 1959. He dedicated much of his life to the culinary industry, where he became known as a talented chef and seafood specialist for more than 30 years. Throughout his career, he worked for Ye Olde Lobster House, Rosewood Grille & Lobster House Alan Alberts, and Station Casinos (Boulder & Sunset). During periods of layoff, Robert also worked construction alongside his father-in-law, Charles Cribbs. In February 2015, Robert and his beloved wife, Sheila, relocated to Oconto, Wisconsin, to be closer to family. After moving to Wisconsin, he continued sharing his love of cooking while working for George Webb in Peshtigo, The Brothers Three in Oconto, Riverside Bar & Grill in Oconto, and Crivello’s in Oconto.
Though Robert was a stepfather to Sueanna and Venessa, he lovingly raised them as his own from the time they were very young, and to them, he was simply “Dad.” His love, guidance, and unwavering support shaped their lives forever.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheila Kay Higgins; his mother, Josephine Ruffo; his father, Dwain Higgins; his son, Robert A. Higgins; his grandson, Erik McPherson; and his brother, Bill Brewer. He is also remembered by his brother, Gary Higgins.
He is survived by his daughter, Sueanna Huffington and her fiancé, Chad Monfils; his daughter, Venessa and his son-in-law, Anthony Hernandez; his daughter-in-law, Amber Higgins; his cherished grandchildren, Aaliyah and Jason Hernandez, Alex and Samantha Higgins, Isabella and Roman McPherson, and Harrison and Jordan Monfils; as well as his brother, Jeffery Higgins. Robert is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Robert found joy in life’s simple moments. He loved playing his harmonica, listening to music, and spending time watching football, especially cheering on his favorite team, the Miami Dolphins. He also enjoyed birdwatching and especially loved watching the eagles near the breakwater. Those who knew Robert will remember his love for music, cooking, family, his sarcastic sense of humor, and the quiet happiness he found in nature.
Robert will be laid to rest during a small private Celebration of Life with close family.
In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions or gifts may be made directly to his daughters.
