Robert D. Byrne, Sr (Bob), 87, passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2026 in Green Bay, WI. A private memorial service will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA.

Bob was born Jan. 25, 1938 in Washington, DC to Patrick and Saidee Byrne.

Mr. Byrne served in the United States Navy, as a hospital corpsman from 1957 to 1962.

In 1963 Mr. Byrne met and married his wife, Joyce who pre-deceased him in 2024. They proudly kept their marriage vows for 61 years. They were active members in several Catholic Parishes in Virginia and served as the President couple for Marriage Encounter at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Chesterfield.

Bob worked in sales and sales management and spent many years in the automobile business in retail and as a consultant for the Aon Company, including Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, Kia, Volvo, and others. He was the recipient of Aon’s prestigious Ring of Honor.

Bob enjoyed working with others and served in the American Legion becoming the Commander of Post 117 in Reedville, VA. He joined and held offices in the Knights of Columbus at Saint Frances De Sales parish in Kilmarnock, VA, He volunteered at the Reedville Fisherman Museum and served on their Board of Directors. Bob participated in and served the Meals on Wheels program in Kilmarnock, VA. Mr. Byrne was nominated for and received the military award “Still Serving” from the Flagship publication in Tidewater VA in 2016.

He and Joyce built their dream home in the Northern Neck of VA (Ophelia) and spent 25 wonderful years there enjoying many friends. They returned to Richmond area in 2019. Mr. Byrne is survived by his brother Thomas, son Robert (Kathy), son Richard (Summer), daughter Jacquelyn, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Saidee and brother Terry.
