Mary Helen "Mary Pat" Thompson, 83, of Green Bay, passed away on February 14, 2026. She was born on June 19, 1942 to Lloyd and Ethel (Duquaine) Patton.
On June 1, 1976, she married James (Jim) Thompson and they moved to Florida, with their children, and lived there for most of their lives. Mary attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic grade school and graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1960. She enjoyed being a cheerleader and has kept several of her friends from school. She was also a state champion tennis player in high school.
Mary and Jim traveled for Jim’s job and were able to live in many areas of the country. They enjoyed visits with Lisa and Gene and their children in Apollo Beach. Mary always had a lot of food prepared, new beach towels, toys and cash on the kids beds when they arrived. These memories are so special. Eventually, Mary and Jim moved to Ave Maria, Florida, to retire. Mary loved having her grandchildren visit as adults as well. She enjoyed being part of Stitch Club and made many friends who sewed, crafted and made rosaries.
Mary loved researching family history. She researched both her family and Jim’s family. She enjoyed sharing the information with the Thompson relatives. She appreciated them keeping in touch with her. When Jim died in 2019, Mary moved back to the Green Bay area, where she grew up, to be with her family. She was deeply thankful to spend her final years near loved ones and to witness the joy of becoming a great-grandmother.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa (Gene) Gruber; her grandchildren: Kara Gruber, Emily (Chris) Lefeber, Gene (Mackenzie) Gruber; her great-grandchildren: Valerie and Louella Lefeber and Gene and Isla Gruber; and her nieces and nephews: Kelly (Phil) Pierner, Jim (the late Mary) Rose, Jennifer (Steve) Styczynski and Adam Rose; Mary is further survived by her great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Thompson; her son, Phillip "PJ" Thompson; her siblings: Patricia (Jim) Rose, Dennis (Celia) Patton; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to The Jack and Engrid Meng Residence. Mary's family would like to thank Unity Hospice and the staff at the Meng Residence for their compassionate care and support. They would also like to thank Bellin Cancer Team and especially her doctor, Dr. Agbedia.
