Mary Herman, cherished lifelong resident of Green Bay, Wisconsin, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Rennes, embraced by the loving presence of her family. Born on June 4, 1929, in Green Bay to the late Eli and Hazel (Rose) Vandenack, Mary was a proud alumna of Green Bay East High School.
On July 8, 1950, Mary united in marriage with Joseph Herman at SS. Peter & Paul, sharing 39 treasured years together until his passing in November 1989. Mary’s devoted career began at St. Vincent Hospital, where she diligently served in central supply, ensuring that all caregivers had what they needed to attend to their patients. Her legacy of service was lovingly carried on by her daughters, Nancy and Lori, who dedicated many years caring for patients and guests at St. Vincent. Later, Mary became a beloved food service worker for the Ashwaubenon Public Schools, where her warm spirit quickly earned her the endearing title of “Grandma” among the students.
An aficionado of knitting and spirited rounds of BINGO, Mary was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Brewers. Her greatest pride, however, lay in cheering on her own children and grandchildren, often found in the stands offering boundless encouragement. Her steadfast faith remained a guiding light throughout her life, as she kept her beloved family close in prayer. At the heart of Mary’s joy was her family—embracing her roles as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother with profound love.
Mary is survived by 4 sons: Dave (Terry), Tom, Ken (Linda) and Bill Herman; 13 grandchildren: Shawn, Mike, Jenny, Jeremy, Jill, Joey, Nick, Jake, Melissa, Matt, Ryan, Brittany, and Wayne; 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by Gail Johnson; 2 sons-in-law, Bob Joepeck and Andy Baker; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; 3 children: Jerry Herman, Nancy Joepeck and Lori "Luvvy" Baker and 3 sisters: LaVerne (Norman) Vandenhoven, Carol (Bernard) Herman and Genevieve (Donald) VanLanen.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul DeMuth, celebrant. Interment will take place at Allouez Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be directed to Rennes or Unity Hospice in Mary’s name. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Rennes, De Pere, and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care and friendship.
