Marjorie Anne Galvin

November 23, 1933 — October 18, 2024

Green Bay

Marjorie Anne Galvin, age 90, of Green Bay, WI, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. She was born in Chicago, IL on November 23, 1933, daughter of the late Edward and Grace (Klein) Cwiklin.

After graduating from Notre Dame High School for Girls, Chicago, IL, she continued her education at De Paul University, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. While studying at De Paul University, Marjorie met the love of her life, William Galvin, who was enrolled in night school at the University. The couple married, October 26, 1957, and shared 47 blessed years together before he passed away, April 15, 2005.

Marjorie had a zest for life and traveled the world with her husband and continued her travels after he passed. She was a talented crocheter, knitter and seamstress, always sharing her talents as gifts to dear loved ones. Marjorie also made one heck of a fruitcake. Not a teacher, priest, scout master, crossing guard, neighbor or family member missed out on that treat. Marjorie lived a life of inclusion. Her ever-expanding family includes a variety of religions, cultures, languages and beliefs. Her home and her heart were always open and, in addition to her ten children, she welcomed foster babies and foreign exchange students into her life and family.

Marjorie believed in opportunity through education. She hosted cooking and sewing mini-courses for the local school students, volunteered as a remedial reading teacher and Sunday School teacher, provided scholarships to high school and university students and served on the St. John the Evangelist school board. A lifelong learner, Marjorie trained to become an EMT after her husband passed, at the age of 72! Marjorie lived a life of determination. She overcame a fear of water and learned to swim as an adult, even conquering the swim out to the raft in Rainbow Lake. She overcame her fear of heights by skydiving in her early 70's! She loved to wear brightly colored socks and strands of color in her hair - often purple. Marjorie's faith was very important to her. She was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, St. Mary's, De Pere, St. Hubert's, Chanhassen, MN and finally at St. Matthew's in Allouez, volunteering on several committees and in many groups within the parishes. Her primary role was as a loving wife, proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Time spent with her family was most precious to her.

Marjorie is survived by her children: Mary (Manuel) Galvin-Santos, Bill (Ann) Galvin, Anne (Joe) Moore, Ellen Galvin, Dann (Victoria) Galvin, Martha Galvin Abou El Ella, Marjorie (Rob) Booth, Major Anthony (Belinda) Galvin USMC, Ret. and Bob (Jessica) Galvin; grandchildren: Amalia, Nicolas, Analise, Erin, Megan, Brittany, Molly, Ryan, Mia, Liam, Eva, Michael, Sharon, Will, Raechel, Samantha, Tarik, Mustafa, McKenna, Addison, Eliza, Liam, Isabella, Frances, Ellanore and Noah; great-grandchildren: William, Evelyn, Willow, Nora, James, Ellie, Declan, Adela, Callahan and Connor and her brother, Ed Cwiklin. She is further survived by many, many nieces, nephews and special friends including Kathy Schultz and Sue Galvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Galvin, daughter, Patrice and her sister, Jacqueline (Richard) Minich.

A visitation will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Parish (130 St. Matthew St., Green Bay, WI), Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 9 to 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM with Fr. Bob Kabat, celebrant. Interment will follow at Allouez Catholic Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to St. Matthew School and Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Marjorie's name are appreciated.

Marjorie's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Woodside Manor 1 and Unity Hospice for their incredible care and compassion.
