Longtime Ashwaubenon resident LaVerne Bradley, 96, died at Unity Meng Hospice Residence. LaVerne went out with a roar the evening of Monday, April 13, as torrential rain, rolling thunder and lightning blasted from the heavens for hours.
Much could be written about LaVerne, but she insisted her obituary be a simple death announcement, or else.
In that spirit, she was the last sibling standing in a family of seven children. She was also the only surviving member of a women’s Bible study group at Green Bay Community Church. LaVerne imagined the church ladies on standby, waiting for her in The Great Beyond.
She is survived by daughter Larken Bradley and her husband, Mark Blackburn, of San Rafael, CA; son Carmen Bradley and his wife, Ms. Theo Gund, of Sun Valley, ID; daughter Shannon Bradley, of Green Bay; daughter Ave Bradley, of Los Angeles; and granddaughter McKenna Berken Sloan and her husband, Jack Sloan, of Chicago.
LaVerne was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Tom Bradley; and by her former son-in-law, Frank Berken.
While no public memorial gathering will be held, lots of people enjoyed LaVerne. No one was ever left wondering how she thought and felt about things.
Family members suggest any memorial contributions be made to Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay. And a thousand thanks, deep bows, to the staff at Unity Meng Hospice Residence for the care and loving kindness extended to LaVerne in her final weeks.
LaVerne wished the following Biblical quote from John 3:16 to be included in her goodbye.
“For God so loved the world, he gave up his only son. Whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
Amen.
