Laurel Jean Liebman - Schultz, age 98, of Denmark, passed away on July 7, 2025 surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 1, 1927 to Huldreich "Rich" and Anita "Pat" (Marquardt) Bohlmann in Milwaukee, WI. Laurel grew up with a wonderful childhood, experiencing the parks, swimming in the lake, and time spent at the local libraries. Her love of reading guided the rest of her life, directing her into the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in English. Laurel's interest evolved into a pursuit of English Literature, with her favorite author being Henry James who's work she taught at the University of North Carolina, the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and North Dakota State University.
She had a lifelong love of reading, nature, gardening, and birds. Laurel was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to travel, getting to experience new places, cultures, and new foods. Laurel often recalled, with great joy, her trips to Japan, Europe, the Virgin Islands, and camping at the Grand Canyon. A special delight was the yearly family trip to Trout Lake in Canada. She would say that, of everywhere she'd been, there was no meal that could beat shore lunch.
Laurel is survived by her loving children; Diana E. Richmond, Marcus D. (Kären) Schultz, and Todd J. Liebman, her 6 grandchildren; Kavana (Matt), Liesl (Scott), Anna (Ryan), Justin, Alyssa (David), and Madelyn, and her 5 great-grandchildren; Emma, Sophia, Boden, Pierce, and Aubrey. Laurel is further survived by her sisters; Ellen Bartz and Marsha Quigley, her cousins; Mary and Linda, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Huldreich and Anita Bohlmann, and her husbands, William L. Schultz, Albert Liebman, and Robert Schultz.
