Kurt Lee Miller

December 23, 1946 — February 8, 2024

Kurt Lee Miller, beloved by his family, friends, and fleeting acquaintances, passed away in the peace of his Green Bay home on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Born in Chippewa Falls, WI on December 23, 1946 to Claude and Val (Tiry) Miller, Kurt’s life was one marked by service, resilience, integrity, warmth, and balance.

Kurt grew up in Chippewa Falls, in between seven children, where he excelled in athletics, the arts, and socially. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1965. Kurt left college to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 1967 during the Vietnam War. He married his high school sweetheart, Susie Hislip, September 7, 1968. He valiantly served two tours, before being honorably discharged and humbly returning home a decorated veteran in 1971.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Kurt worked for State Farm for 35 years, where he was an esteemed and cherished colleague and friend.

Kurt loved celebrating others wins (especially his grandkid’s successes) he could find a teaching moment in anything, and had an uncanny ability to make others feel special. His wit, knowledge, ability to connect, humbleness, loyalty, and selflessness made his family proud. We will miss his silly side, his humor, his giving heart, his openness and acceptance of everyone and his ability to understand all sides.

He was a devoted father to his daughter Kristine, and adored by his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Grant, Olivia, and Gage. Through his family, Kurt’s legacy and values will continue to grow.

Kurt was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and boating. He was a skilled craftsman and knife maker. Could never play too much cribbage or 500! He loved learning and creating. He took classes with Kristine over the years from pottery, to welding and forging.

Kurt was honored to be chosen for an honor flight to Washington DC in 2019, accompanied by his son-in-law, Craig Newman.

Kurt is survived by his wife, Sue, his daughter, Kristine (Craig) Newman; 4 grandchildren: Gabrielle, Grant, Olivia (Brandon Daniels) and Gage and 2 siblings, Candy and Keven Miller. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Elsie Miller, Sue's sister and brother, Sandi (Don) Chrystal and Roger (Rhonda) Hislip, numerous very special nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings: Claudette (Bill) Dzubay, Roger Miller, Alan Miller and Cheryl (Paul) Sneen.
