Kathleen J. Vandenelzen

September 14, 1951 — April 20, 2025

Suamico, WI

Kathleen J. "Kathy" Vandenelzen, age 73, of Suamico, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. She was one of the strongest, most caring mothers, sisters, grandmothers and friends. No matter what life handed her, she faced it with quiet strength and a sense of humor that could brighten anyone’s day. “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come” (Proverbs 31:25). She loved her family deeply, especially her grandkids, who were her pride and joy.

Kathy was born in Two Rivers, September 14, 1951, daughter of the late Gerald and Elizabeth (Ammerman) Wotruba and was a graduate of Green Bay West High School. She married Thomas Vandenelzen, February 26, 1972. They shared 51 years of marriage before Tom passed away in 2023. Even though she spent much of her life in a wheelchair, it never stopped her from being the heart of the family. She always had to know what everyone was up to by checking in, asking for photos, keeping track of us all like only she could. Some of our favorite memories are of her sitting at the table, playing card games and laughing especially with her husband, the love of her life, who passed almost two years ago. The two of them made a team in every sense of the word, and now they’re together again.

Kathy is survived by her 2 sons, Christopher and Matthew (Elizabeth) Vandenelzen; 5 grandchildren: Owen, Jackson, Lila, Jasmine and Emylia and 6 siblings: Tom Wotruba, Lee Wotruba, Bill (Carla) Wotruba, Cheryl Stumbris, Julie (Craig) Laakso and Tina (Charlie) Glasso. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Kim and many other in-laws.

A celebration of Kathy's life will be held by her family at a later date.

Though we miss her deeply, we find peace in knowing she’s resting in God’s care. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…” (Revelation 21:4). Her love, her laughter, and her warmth will stay with us always. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

Kathy's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her caretaker, Angel Fox and the 2nd floor staff at Bellin Hospital for their incredible care and compassion.
