Listen to Obituary

John A. Schwarz, age 86, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026 with his wife by his side.

He was born on March 5, 1940 to the late John and Martha Schwarz in Chicago, IL. John worked as a painter for 40 years, starting his career at Van Eperen Painting, before moving to Omni Glass and Paint. After a chance meeting in Door County in the Summer of 1964, John and Mary were married on October 3, 1964, and were married for 61 years. The couple had two wonderful children; David and Leah.

John could always be found spending time with his friends, whether it was on the golf course, camping, cross country skiing, biking, or fishing. When not out with his friends, John could be found watching all sports; especially the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. And as he would put it, he was one of the two million people in attendance at the Ice Bowl. John was a "Jack-of-Trades", and even built the cottage that he and Mary lived in, in Townsend. The couple enjoyed their time together traveling, and visited many special places. Some of their favorites were, going to the bottom of the Grand Canyon on mules, Thailand, and the 22 years wintering in Clearwater, Florida. John was a recovering alcoholic, and was proudly sober for 46 years.

John was a man who loved his family and friends deeply, and he will be missed by everyone. He was survived by his wife, Mary, his two children; David (Annie) Schwarz, and Leah (Mark) Drewa, his three grandchildren; Jacob (Sara) Drewa, Emma (Dan) Beresheim, and Zoe (Chris Routzong) Schwarz, and his great-grandson, Owen Drewa. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law; John McMonagle and Ruben Schmidt, his nephews, Jim (Ronda) Shotsberger, and Steve, Ken, Paul, Jeff, and Eric, and the McMonagle cousins, and his many friends from Townsend and Clearwater.

He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Martha, his siblings; Dan, Lorraine, and Kathleen, his niece, Kathy, and his sister-in-law; Ruthie.

Per John's request, there are no services scheduled.
