John "Fred" White

January 17, 1945 — March 12, 2022

John Frederick "Fred" White, 77, of Green Bay passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 after a valiant 13-year battle with prostate cancer.

Born January 17, 1945, in Royal Oak, MI to the late Charles Paul and Leota Ann "Bonnie" (Bell) White, Fred graduated from Kewanee (Illinois) High School in 1963. He attended college at the University of Oklahoma, where he was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. During college, Fred joined the ROTC and, after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Fred served in Vietnam as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. As a Platoon Leader in Vietnam, Fred earned a Bronze Star medal for meritorious achievement. After returning from service, Fred and his wife Patricia lived in Illinois before settling in 1973 in Green Bay, where they raised three daughters.

Fred's professional career was spent in the restaurant business. He franchised several different restaurant brands throughout the Midwest, but he was proudest of his involvement with Hardee's restaurants, as it allowed him and his brothers the opportunity to continue their father's legacy as a founding member of Sandy's restaurants, the precursor to Hardee's.

Fred was a man of faith and drew strength from his involvement with the First United Methodist Church. As a proud veteran, Fred was also a member of the Military Officers Club of Northeastern Wisconsin (affiliate of the Military Officers Association of America), and he played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the Annual Veterans Benefit Golf Outing in Green Bay, which has raised funds to support Wisconsin and Upper Michigan veterans for the past eight years. Fred was also a past board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay.

Fred loved to golf and loved to spend time with his loyal friends, many of whom were long-standing golf partners at Oneida Golf and Country Club. He also enjoyed traveling, long walks on Florida beaches, history, and sports. He loved his family - including the dogs he reluctantly inherited from his daughters - and he was very proud of his entire family and the life he shared with his wife.

Fred is survived by his wife Patricia Ann (Wysowski) White; daughter Elicia A. Lagerkvist and her partner John Kuester of Oshkosh; daughter Erinn L. White, husband Bradley P. Sullivan and grandson Austin B. Sullivan of Atlanta; and daughter Erica L. White and her partner Lisa Cappuccini of London, England. Also surviving is his brother, J. Randall White of Findlay, OH, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother Charles Paul "Chip" White III and sister Geraldine, who died shortly after birth.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church (501 Howe St., Green Bay, WI), Friday, June 3, 2022 at 10 AM with military honors.
