Jo A. Schuessler, age 80, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026 surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 30, 1946 to the late Edwin and Lucille (Bunker) Mommaerts in Green Bay, WI. Jo was the first of four children. She graduated Green Bay West High School with the class of 1964. After high school, Jo met Jim Schuessler and the couple was soon united in marriage. Their 14 year union was blessed with three wonderful boys. On their farm in Suamico they raised goats, pigs, chicken, a cow, and even a horse or two. Jo and the kids enjoyed sharing the goats milk, and the rest of the family knew to bring their own milk.
Jo enjoyed driving school bus when her boys were younger, and later transitioned to driving coach bus for tour groups. She was honored to be awarded "Wisconsin School Bus Driver of the Year in 1986". She then worked at Beaumont Clinic, (later Prevea) in the Records Department until her retirement. Jo had a passion for quilting, sewing, and needle point, and regularly volunteered to help out. She could be found hemming donated jeans for local students, and making blankets and clothes to ship all around the world after natural disasters. She had a love for gardening and flowers, for her cats: Pooter, Bucky, Monty and Jordy, and she cherished every moment she could spend with her friends quilting. Her greatest loves were always her faith, her family and her friends.
Jo is survived by her loving sons: Phil (Melisa) Schuessler, Matt (Becky) Schuessler, and Andy Schuessler, along with her grandchildren: Shawn, Cassandra, and Audrey. She is further survived by her brother: Rod (Kathy) Mommaerts, her sisters-in-law: Lori Vecchio and Monica Beard, her nephews: Greg (Amanda), Russel (Kelsey), Nat (Erin), Reid (Nydehlia), and Jack, as well as many other cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Edwin and Lucille Mommaerts, and her siblings: Russel Mommaerts, and Sue Mommaerts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:15 am with Memorial Service at 11:30am at Newcomer Funeral Home (340 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay.) Burial at a later date at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.
Jo’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Odd Fellows for their compassionate and dedicated care. Jo enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you, and you made her difficult days bright.
