Jeanine Rae Hettiger, 87, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was born on February 16, 1938, to Ryburn and Virginia (Thomas) North in Herrin, Illinois. She graduated from Herrin High School in 1956. She later graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1960 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She began teaching Elementary Education in Lombard, Illinois where she met Neil Hettiger, her future husband. They married on August 10, 1963, in Villa Park, Illinois. In 1965, a job change for her husband resulted in moving to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where Jeanine became a full time homemaker.
Jeanine loved spending time with her family. She was very active in her two son's academics and extracurricular activities. They traveled to DuQuoin, Illinois every summer and every other Christmas to her mother's home on Cherry Lake. She also had a passion for bowling, knitting, crocheting, sewing, cross-stitching and collecting Precious Moments figurines. She loved cardinals and collected pictures and decor and displayed them around her home. Little known fact, every March Jeanine disappeared into March Madness, following men's and women's college and high school basketball, tracking wins and loses, and filling out brackets for each, always cheering on her favorite teams.
Jeanine is survived by her loving husband, Neil; two sons: Brian Hettiger and Kurt Hettiger; four grandchildren: Andrew "Drew" Hettiger, Alexa "Lexi" Hettiger, Amelia Hettiger and Adalei Hettiger; two great-grandchildren, Aria and Lucas "Luke" Hettiger; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary (Marsha) Hettiger, David (Georgette) Hettiger, Alan (Mary) Hettiger and Ann (Joe) DeKeyser; and many nieces, nephews and further family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her half-brother and his wife, John and Gwyn Underwood.
