Listen to Obituary

Guy Richard Vanden Heuvel of Oconto, WI, age 66, passed away on Thursday February 26, 2026.

He was born in Green Bay on July 9,1959, to Richard M. Vanden Heuvel and Sharon R. (King) Vanden Heuvel-Reautheau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Jay, Ric, and Lee, and his wife, Katie.

He is survived by his sisters, Lori (Steve), Geri, his brothers, Jon, Kit (Laura), and Job (Jackie), and his girlfriend Lori. Guy and Lori spent some wonderful years together, working hard, having fun, and making some good friends along the way. In his last days, Guy expressed his love for Lori saying, “she took care of me through everything.”

The first-born son and oldest brother to eight siblings, Guy spent his earliest years on the family farm and then the majority of his childhood in Dyckesville, where he worked in the family bowling alley and bar. He graduated from Luxemburg-Casco High School in 1977.

After graduation, Guy “hitched a ride” to Florida and began 25 years of hanging drywall, sometimes working alongside his younger brothers. After 7 years in Florida, he returned to the Green Bay area, and eventually Oconto, for the remainder of his life.

When he was younger, Guy enjoyed motorcycles, bowling, golfing, and fishing. He developed a love for the guitar and regretted not picking one up sooner in his life as it brought him so much joy. He had a great voice, and loved to sing. He would often jump in with bands at Riverside and sing a couple songs.

Guy grew up working in the bar business and continued to be involved in it all his life. He thoroughly enjoyed being behind the bar, referring to it as a sort of “stage” where he could tell his stories and jokes to make people laugh! It wasn’t unusual for him to play his music and even share his own “standup comedy” routine!

He enjoyed spending time with people so much, whether arguing with them about his feelings on the government or telling stories about his fishing trips with his buddies. His favorite place was on a stool in a smoke-filled bar, where the old country music was loud, he could play some cards, and make people laugh with his storytelling.

A businessman/bar owner for over 50 years, Guy operated his tavern and served food at Wise Guys in Langes Corners and at a second Wise Guys Riverside in Oconto.

Traveling was something that Guy enjoyed. He made memorable trips to Florida, Mexico, and Canada; but his favorite destinations were to Vegas and Laughlin where he practiced his skill at the game of Black Jack!

He loved his rescue dogs, Bonnie and Clyde, and didn’t mind admitting that he spoiled them rotten.

Guy, was truly larger than life….and had a heart just as big…. some would call him a legend. He was known and loved by so many and will be dearly thought of, remembered, and missed by all.

Guy wanted to express his sincerest thanks to the staff and caregivers at Emplify/Bellin for their exceptional consideration and care during his last days, allowing him to spend that time doing what he loved so much: laughing and sharing his stories and experiences.

There will be a celebration of life for “WiseGuy” on March 21st at Packer Stadium Lounge in Green Bay, from 1:00pm-6:00pm. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider planting an apple tree to honor his memory; Granny Smith apples were his favorite.
