Gregory Joseph Kirst, 78, of Ashwaubenon, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026. He was born on March 24, 1948 to Charles and Rosalia (Binversie) Kirst in Sheboygan. He was raised in Grafton, along with his five brothers and two sisters. Greg graduated from Grafton High School in 1966. Greg was the captain of the basketball team, and helped lead the team to the state tournament his senior year.
Greg attended UW LaCrosse for Education before he was drafted into the Army. He held a variety of positions starting out at Miller Brewing Company, progressing through Fort Howard, Humana, and ending his career at Modern Business Machines.
Greg married Therese "Teri" Mayer on May 26, 1972, and together they shared laughs and adventures while raising three children. Greg was a kind and gentle man with a quick wit, infectious laugh, open heart, and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Greg was best known for having a keen mind for trivia, playing cards, and golf. If you had a question about any western on TV or film - Greg had the correct answer. If there was a poker or cribbage game to be had, rain or shine, Greg would be there. If there was a golf shot that could impossibly be made - Greg was the one to have the club, and the luck, to make that shot. Greg was a loyal Packer and Brewer fan and always was willing to talk about the game (as long as he was done watching the "tape" of the second half!).
Greg lived a full and joyful life with his wife Teri, his sons: Scott (Melissa) Kirst, and their son, William; Mark (Jo) Kirst their children: Mabel, Boone, and Elly; and daughter, Sara (Chris) Herr and their children: Cooper and Berritt; Greg and Teri were blessed with having all their children and grandchildren close by and "popping-in" often.
He is further survived by his siblings: Char (Mike) Karrels, Kevin (Connie) Kirst, Randy (Charisse) Kirst, Mike Kirst, Mary Kirst, and Tim (Wendy) Kirst; extended brothers-and sisters-in-law: Bonnie Kirst, Ray (Carol) Mayer, and Marion (Gary) Wendorff; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law: Elmer and Dolores Mayer, his brother, Tony Kirst, brothers-in-law, Francis and Gene Mayer, and nephew, Ryan Kirst.
No public funeral service will be held per Greg’s wishes. A celebration of life will take place for the immediate family.
The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Bellin Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, gifts, or donations, simply remember Greg when you get that perfect hand, drive past a golf course on a beautiful day, or see an old time western..... Dad
