On Wednesday, September 2nd our beautiful mother joined the infinite heavens. On her last day on this earth, she was surrounded by her children and peacefully returned home. In true Grace fashion, she departed with class and elegance.
Grace was born to Edward and Theresa (nee Cychosz) Sommers on March 14, 1938, in Stevens Point, WI
After graduating from UW Stevens Point with a BS in Voice and English, Grace relocated to Green Bay after being hired as a music teacher for the Green Bay School District. When her children came along, Grace stopped teaching but remained very active in the area’s music community. Grace appeared and sang with the Collegiate Choir for 50 years (now known as the Dudley Birder Chorale), The Community Choir at UWGB, the Green Bay Chamber Choir, Summer Theater at St. Norbert College, and sang and directed church choirs. Music held a special place in Grace’s heart and she remained involved with music throughout her entire life. Grace was also a member of the Service League of Green Bay and the Medical Alliance of Green Bay.
An avid golfer, Grace was a member at Oneida Golf & Country Club for over 50 years and proudly accomplished a hole-in-one on two separate occasions. She also enjoyed playing tennis as well as gourmet cooking…much to her family’s delight!
Grace married Dr. Frederick Sehring in March 1982 celebrating over 30 years of marriage until Fred’s death in 2012. Above all, Grace and Fred’s greatest accomplishment was successfully blending their families into one. She leaves behind her loving family including daughter Mary White, her son Peter (Anne) White; Fred’s children Stephen (the late Amy) Sehring, Susan Sehring Sheehy, John (Heather) Sehring, Greg (Ashley) Sehring, Jeff Sehring and grandchildren Reagan Sehring, Jacqueline (Casey) Smyth and Fritz Sehring, Ian and Jack Sheehy, Declan and Caeden Sehring, and Zoë Sehring. Grace is survived by brothers Ervin (Nora) Sommers and Ben Sommers and preceded in death by sisters Patricia Thomas and Edwina Schmidtke.
Grace, a shining example of a life well-lived, will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
