Edward C. Augustine, Jr. passed away suddenly on March 31, 2026, at St Vincent Hospital in Green Bay of a heart attack. Newcomer Funeral Home in Green Bay assisted with cremation arrangements.

Ed was born on July 26, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Edward "Bud" Sr., and Marian (Frank) Augustine. He was an only child who spent his formative years in Milwaukee and cherished his summers in Door County. He graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee in 1967 before pursuing higher education at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. There, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, graduating on May 28, 1972. Ed obtained his Education Certificate on December 22, 1974, accredited by NCATE to teach Senior High School Social Studies. He furthered his academic journey at Cardinal Stritch College between 1982 and 1984.

While completing his education certificate, Ed taught at Custer High School in Milwaukee, where he specialized in Secondary Social Studies, including African American History. From 1976 to 1989, Ed served Milwaukee Public Schools as a substitute teacher, imparting knowledge across multiple disciplines such as History, Political Science, Spanish, and Math.

In addition to his contributions to education, Ed played a pivotal role in the family legacy at Spikehorn Campground in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin. Alongside his parents, he managed the campground from 1985 to 1999. Spikehorn Campground, formerly known as “Little Moonlight Bay” and located on Cana Island Road, held the distinction of being the oldest (est 1962) and only private campground in Door County directly on the shores of Lake Michigan. In 1984, the campground was recognized with a plaque from the Nature Conservancy, celebrating its status as a cherished family camping destination nestled in the secluded woods with two sandy beaches. Ed took over full management of the campground until his father's passing. It was then sold to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in March 2000, as part of a nature preserve. The area was renamed "Spikehorn Bay" in honor of the Augustine family’s stewardship.

Known among friends and family as a competent and devoted individual, Edward enjoyed a broad range of hobbies and interests. He loved candy and cigars, found joy in reading, cutting firewood, lawn care, planting seedlings, shop projects -particularly crafting birdhouses, shooting, traveling and was a lifelong enthusiast of history and the stock market.

Ed was an active member of the Community Church of Fish Creek, where his commitment to community was reflected in his spiritual life. Ed was always one of the first to arrive at weekly events, and regularly attended service and events on Sunday and Wednesday. There is no doubt, he truly loved Jesus.

He will be remembered with respect and gratitude for his roles as a teacher, manager, community member, and faithful friend. The impact of his life endures in the hearts of all touched by his kindness, knowledge, and devotion.

Donations in Ed's honor can be made to the many organizations he loved: Community Church of Fish Creek, NRA, Ronald Reagan Memorial Library, Door County Library System, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, Door County History Society, American Bible Society, Wycliffe Bible Translators, International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, The Cru Foundation and Moody Bible Institute.
