Edward Henry Alsteen

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce that Edward Henry Alsteen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 12th, 2025 at the age of 74.

Ed was born on July 13th, 1951 and was raised by his parents in the Luxemburg-Casco area to be a man of great faith and work ethic. His family and faith also instilled in him the desire to help anyone he could, whether with his kind words or with labor. Everyone knew that there was very little that Ed, gifted by God with a sharp eye, steady hand, and keen mind, could not fix, mend, or build.

Working on his family farm throughout his upbringing, Ed graduated high school in 1969 from Luxemburg-Casco and went on to graduate from UW-Oshkosh. He worked for many years at WPS and eventually retired from the Kewaunee Nuclear Plant where he served as a fire protection engineer. After retirement from the plant, he continued to stay active with one of his lifelong passions of working with horses, most recently training rescued horses at Whistler’s Run and Rescue. Those of us who really knew Ed knew he was a cowboy at heart.

Edward was a charming, dependable man of great strength and character. On September 4, 1999, he married the love of his life, Peggy Shimon. He was an amazing husband to Peggy and was her rock, best friend, and soulmate. They shared 27 wonderful years together making millions of amazing memories. He made every day special with his kindness, fun spirit, support, and steadfast love, and no greater husband could she have ever dreamed of. He was also a loving and proud father and his love was endless and unconditional for the children who were the lights of his life. Nothing made him happier than spending time with the kids and grandkids at campfires, card games, holidays, family vacations and the annual Kermiss to name just a few.

Ed was a skilled outdoorsman, relishing fishing, hunting, and campouts with family and friends. He felt close to God in nature, and his morning coffee on his swing amidst his wooded land with his faithful dogs became a favorite mainstay of his daily routine. Anyone who has visited the Alsteen home, knows how hard Edward worked to make it a beautiful home and landscape that he loved with all his heart. Ed cherished hosting friends and family especially for fish frys and campfires and was often the life of the party with his contagious laugh and giant, warm smile. While he loved being at home he also was an avid traveller, both in the States and abroad. Wherever Ed was, he made countless lasting connections because to know Ed was to instantly make a loyal, lifelong friend who could be counted on for anything. Those who knew him loved him, and those who love him will miss him sorely with the comfort that he lived life to the fullest, and his legacy lives on.

Ed is survived by his wife, Peggy, his four beautiful daughters, Jamie (Travis) Annoye, Casey (John) DeGrand, Heidi (Kevin) Henry, and Holly (Danny) Mullin and his grandchildren, Dylan, Cailey, Tyler, Payton, Chase, and Miles. He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie (Tina) Alsteen, his sisters, Betty Jane Michiels, Beverly Zellner, and Marlene (Jerry) Treml, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary Jonet, Trish (Dave) Novak, Joanne (Brent) Weycker, Dan (Heidi) Shimon, Van (Brandi) Nguyen, his father and mother-in-law, John and Thalia Shimon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

He was welcomed home into the Kingdom of Heaven by his beloved parents, Andrew and Irene Alsteen, his sister, Diane Jonet, his brother, Larry Alsteen, special niece, Aislinn Shimon, his brothers-in-law, Donnie Michiels and Ronnie Zellner, and his beloved son, Andrew John.

You are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

Please join with us for a visitation on Monday, November 17th at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Green Bay from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. with a Mass to follow at 4:00. Both he and his son, Andrew, were passionate about this organization and were both donors of the gift of life.
