Walter "Dick" Eugene Gross, age 77, of Gresham, passed away on May 14, 2025 surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 19, 1947 to Charles and Mary Jane (Breecher) Gross in Milwaukee, WI. Dick joined the Navy at a young age, and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He proudly remained involved in the VFW and American Legion for more than 50 years. On his return, he came home to his childhood sweetheart, Lynn Wery, whom he had married while serving his country. The couple was united in marriage on June 14, 1969 at St. John the Baptist Church in Howard, and enjoyed 55 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two children, Tammy and Rob.
Dick was an avid hunter and trapper, enjoying all things outdoors. He was a gifted carpenter, and there wasn't anything that he couldn't build or fix. As Mia Mya would say "If Papa can't fix it, we're screwed". He always took the time to share his knowledge and experience with others. He cared deeply for his family, and cherished every moment they spent together. The time that he spent with his grandchildren was incredibly special and they shared a love that was unwavering. He had a great sense of humor, often teasing the kids, and making them laugh. Dick, Rob, and Joe were so much alike that they jokingly referred to each other as the three Dicks. Dick made friends wherever he went, and always left a lasting impression.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Gross, his children; Tammy (Thom) Moder and Rob (Deb) Gross, and his grandchildren; Zach Zaroff, Joe (Jordan) Gross, and Mia Moder. He is further survived by a sister, Toots (Jim) Bjorklund, two sister-in-laws; Patty Gross and Sherry Gross, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Jane, his siblings; Sue (Russell) Edlund, Sandy (Roger) Hyska, Chuck Gross, and Rick Gross.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Dick's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bellin Hospital for their kindness and care.
