Listen to Obituary

Christine "Chris" M. Sobieck, 81, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on May 27, 1944, to Sidney and Irene (Wardeck) Counard in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. On September 19, 1964, she married Richard Sobieck, the love of her life.

Christine lived the kind of life that made people feel safe, seen, and deeply loved – a caretaker by both nature and choice.

She was a devoted wife for 61 years and the best mom her three children (Cheryl, Craig, and Stephanie) could have asked for. She always had their backs 200% (even when they were wrong). She was quick-witted, incredibly funny, and exuded a silliness that made even the hardest days feel a little lighter. She was game for anything: being the butt of the joke, being dressed up in crazy outfits, or simply showing up with an open heart and a willingness to make life more fun. She never took herself too seriously, but she took the people she loved very seriously.

That included her CNA clients. She didn’t just care for them; she truly loved them, treating them with dignity, kindness, and respect. She worked hard in her career, as she did at everything. She was never complacent, always moving. She knitted, crocheted, worked with ceramics, refinished furniture, and had a talent for turning worn, tired things into something special…something once again beautiful. Her home reflected that same care – clean, welcoming, and full of life.

But no matter how busy this constantly-in-motion woman was, Christine made time for others. She listened without interrupting, never rushed the conversation, and offered advice without judgment. Some of her favorite times were spent with her grandchildren. She adored them, laughing and playing alongside them, pulling out the child within herself to turn even the simplest moments into extra-special memories.

Ranking right up there with the love of her grandchildren was her love for her dogs. It was shameless, and they reaped the rewards by being fed full breakfasts on their very own human plates. If you were her dog, you knew it. And so did everyone else by the level of obesity they eventually reached.

Christine was beautiful inside and out, with sparkling blue eyes, a contagious giggle, and a spirit that twinkled with every conversation shared, every secret kept, and every single hug she gave. She was love – steady, generous, and complete.

Christine is survived by her loving husband, Richard; their children: Cheryl (Stefan) Jonas, Craig (Teressa) Sobieck, and Stephanie Sobieck; five grandchildren: Amanda Sobieck, Kirk (Kristen) James, Sarah (Justin) Neal, Brittany (Brian) McCarty and Chad Sobieck; six great-grandchildren: Anna Grace and Sawyer McCarty, Tyler and Case James and Mason and Peyton Neal; and her siblings: Judy (Jack) Cumbers, Pam Delveaux and Mel Counard. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marilyn.
