Candy Diane Heidersheid of Abrams, WI passed away on Tuesday November 25, 2025, in the presence of her family and closest friends. Facing an aggressive cancer with remarkable courage, her mind remained as sharp as ever.
Candy was born on September 16, 1955, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Willard and Dorothy (Werner) Harwood. She grew up in Greendale, Wisconsin where she graduated High School in 1973. During her childhood, Candy was involved in Girl Scouts for 20 years with her mother, Dorothy as their Troop Leader. She was also First Mate for the M.S. Nightingale for a decade. This included year-round activities throughout the state and extensive canoe trips during the summer months.
Candy attended UW-Whitewater, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education with a History Major and Safety Minor, graduating in 1977. She met the love of her life, John, in 1975 on the Campus of UW-Whitewater. Upon graduation, she moved to Oshkosh, WI to be with John and continue her education, by getting a Master of Science in Education in 1983.
They were married on March 30, 1985, and later moved to their forever home in Abrams, WI. Together they built a beautiful family that began in 1988 when their daughter, Amber, arrived 2 days after Candy’s 33rd birthday, followed by Aaron in 1991.
Candy spent her entire career at West De Pere High School. Her first role was a Reading Specialist, later transitioning to teach U.S. & World History for the remainder of her 33 year career. As a glutton of punishment, she also taught Drivers Education on-and-off throughout her career including several summers post-retirement. Candy touched countless lives over the course of her career.
Candy was a sports enthusiast, but her favorite sport was Wrestling. You would find her at every baseball, football, cross country, and wrestling event for her son Aaron. One of her proudest wrestling moments came in 2010, when Oconto Falls won the WIAA Division 2 Team State Championship. Candy continued to support and attend wrestling events and especially loved to watch Aaron coach. She adored watching her three grandchildren Micah, Melanie, and Madison compete in Football and Volleyball. It seemed inevitable that Candy was the first to arrive and the last to leave, especially at wrestling tournaments as she thought “the big boys” (heavyweights) deserved the same respect as the rest of the athletes.
In retirement, Candy loved going to Bingo with friends and family. She enjoyed the thrill and anticipation of the game. She was proud to support Purse BINGO that benefits the Center for Childhood Safety Green Bay. She attended every year with her daughter, Amber and friend, Annette. Her fellow Bingo friends cherished the moments when Candy would nudge them as the next number was called and shout “BINGO!”-her radiant smile could light up any room.
Candy is survived by her husband of 40 years, John; her daughter Amber (Josh Lardnois), son Aaron (Abigail) Heidersheid, grandchildren Micah Heidersheid, Melanie and Madison Frank, Brother-in-Law John Kontowicz, Sister-in-Law Rae Nichols, and several nieces and nephews.
Candy was preceded in death by her parents Willard and Dorothy, sister Dawn, her mother and father-in-law Irene & John Heidersheid.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the countless nurses at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, especially Jamie.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI), Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 1 to 3 PM. A memorial service will follow at 3 PM.
