Gillett

Amy Jo Holmes, 57, of Gillett, passed away on September 6, peacefully at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center.

Amy was born on October 17, 1966 to Melvin and Geraldine Lauersdorf, and graduated from Gillett High School in 1985.

Amy was a remarkable mother to her children, Andrew Holmes, Tandymn Smet and her fiancé's son, Josh Smet. As a mother, she embodied strength and courage while always putting her children's needs and dreams before her own. For 28 years, Amy shared a life with her fiancé, Jeff Smet, who stood by her side through sickness and health. Amy was the heart of her family, the person everyone could rely on for a listening ear, a comforting word, a warm embrace, a great laugh, or a frequent phone call. She had an extraordinary gift for making those around her feel cherished and valued, bringing everyone together for big or small celebrations. Her thoughtful check-ins, kind gestures, and genuine interest in the lives of her family and friends will be remembered with great fondness. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her legacy of love and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Amy's generosity and unyielding spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Amy is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Holmes; her parents; her siblings: LouAnn Lauersdorf and Jeff Lauersdorf; grandparents; and aunts and uncles. Their presence in her life was a guiding light and her reunion with them brings those who know their bond, peace. Amy is survived by her children: Andrew (fiancée Urzula) Holmes and Tandymn Smet; her fiancé, Jeff Smet; Jeff's son, Josh Smet; grandson, Brayden Holmes; daughter-in-law, Jolene Holmes; siblings: Rhonda (Bryan) Kain, Jim (Jodie) Lauersdorf, Jackie (Gerald) Lemirande and Jody (Kelly) Lauersdorf; uncles, Allen Kohn and Wayne Kohn; her nieces and nephews; and her dog, Piper. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she impacted and the love she gave.

Private services will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the Aurora staff and hospice team for their supportive services during this time. The family would also like to express gratitude for her caregivers, Bonnie and Lori, and the staff at Lakeland Care.
