John Patrick Casey, age 86, of Green Bay, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 in his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born April 20, 1930 in Mitchelstown, County Cork, Ireland to the late Edmund and Julia (Shealy) Casey. He was born and raised in Ireland before moving to the United States when he was 19. John embraced his American citizenship and shortly after coming to America, John enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his new country. John bravely fought in the Korean War as a paratrooper. Later, John became the Post Commander of the Korean War veterans in Santa Barbara, CA.

John enjoyed his career of 38 years driving a greyhound bus, touring and traveling over 3 million miles from coast to coast. After retirement, John met the love of his life, Elizabeth Kane at a campground. Their eyes locked and it was love at first sight. They were married February 14, 1998 on a schooner in the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara and together they shared 23 wonderful married years. John loved the west, spending his retirement in California and Arizona with his wife, Beth, later making his permanent residence in Green Bay, close to his family.

John lived life to the fullest, loved with his whole heart and always enjoyed a good laugh and happy hour!

John is survived by his wife, Beth Ann; 6 children: John Casey, Jr., Steve (Cathy) Casey, Patricia (Don) Weber, Michele (Dan) Hunt, Cathy (Gerry) Cavis and Michael (Stacey) Denil; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann (the late Jos) Ryan and Sheila (the late Tony) Doolan; special friend, Jerry (Marty) Olsen; feline companion, Frankie; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Jim, Tom and Patrick Casey and a sister, Peg Casey.

Visitation will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4 to 5:45 PM. A memorial service will follow at 6 PM with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to the Bay Area Humane Society in John's name are appreciated.

John's family would like to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice and the therapists and nursing staff at Golden Living for their exceptional care.
