David John Wellens, 80, of De Pere, peacefully entered into his eternal rest, January 24, 2022. He was born on March 1, 1941, in Green Bay to Alfred and Catherine (Hoida) Wellens.

Dave was a 1959 Graduate of De Pere High School. In July of 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and after training, he was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany for 3 years as a Morse Code Intercept Operator. He returned to De Pere and on September 7, 1963, he met his lifetime love, Sandra Casl. They were married on June 13, 1964 at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Sheboygan, WI and were blessed with three daughters and one son.

Dave was a man of great faith in God and a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his jogging years where he logged over 24,000 miles. He loved to drive and traveled with his wife, Sandy, all over the USA. Dave worked as a Papermaker, Cost Accountant and Courier Driver, until he retired at the age of 62. He was an avid Brewers and Packers fan.

David is survived by his wife, Sandy, and their four children: Annette (Bob) Rocque, Paul Wellens, Kathleen (Craig) Wilkinson and Jennifer (Erik) Lane; grandchildren: Nicholas & Christopher Jansen, Melissa (Joshua) Magaurn, Hunter & Tyler Wellens, Bree Wilkinson and Hayden & Josie Lane, and his brother, Mark.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Shirley and Barbara.

His funeral will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church (130 St. Matthew St., Green Bay), Friday, January 28, 2022 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Fr. Robert Kabat, celebrant. David will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery, De Pere.

In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to St. John's Homeless Shelter in Dave's name are appreciated.

David's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the 2nd floor and ICU staffs at Bellin Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.
