Daniel Joseph Mackin Life story video
Daniel Joseph Mackin passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021 after struggling with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a form of FrontoTemporal Degeneration (FTD), for several years. If you could guess who would get a serious disease, you would not have predicted Dan. He was very athletic, ate healthy foods, and had a positive attitude. Dan’s disease was very rare. He was fortunate to have it diagnosed correctly, early in its progress. As a final gift, Dan donated his brain to the University of Maryland, Baltimore to further the research and knowledge surrounding this rare condition in the hope of helping others.

He was born in Green Bay, WI to John (Jack) and Marion "Marnie" (Dorschel) Mackin on June 15, 1961. Dan graduated from Abbot Pennings High School. He earned an Associate Degree in Structural Engineering at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) in 1981. Dan graduated from St. Norbert College in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration.

He established Ever-Green Landscape Management in 1996 and operated it for 22 years. His knowledge and his skill nurtured many plants and lawns to life.

Dan enjoyed being outside, camping, golfing and playing tennis. He was a member of the Green Bay Curling Club. He ran the Bellin Run for 20 years, the last 2 in his wheelchair, as well as a few marathons. He progressed to triathlons, and took first place in several triathlons for his age group. He enjoyed music, attending concerts and traveling. Dan was a lifelong fan of the Packers, UWGB Phoenix Basketball, and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marnie Mackin; stepmother, Marilyn Vander Zanden Mackin; aunts and uncles: Ann (Jack) Renard, Joseph (Jeanne) Dorschel, Edith (Clarence) Grognet, James Mackin, Abbot Emeritus Benjamin Mackin, O. Praem., Patrick Mackin; niece, Marnie Mackin; cousins: Jay Dorschel, Constance Dorschel, Paul Renard, Del Renard; stepbrother, Douglas Vander Zanden and stepsister, Amy Twadell.
Daniel is survived by his sisters: Mary (Wayne) LaCourt, Patricia (John) Cole, Molly (Patrick) Zabrowski (Wauwatosa, WI) and brother, Michael (Julann) Mackin; godchildren: Jesse Cole and Patrick Mackin; 12 nieces and nephews, 6 grand nieces and nephews, aunt Marilyn Fischer, several cousins and many friends.

Dan is also survived by his stepsisters and stepbrothers: Mary (Gerald) O’Connor, Richard (Rayann) Vander Zanden, Sarah Vander Zanden (Peter Marston), Kathryn Vander Zanden, Kenny Twadell, Debra Martin, and Jacob (Jessica) Vander Zanden, as well as numerous step-nieces and step-nephews.
He is further survived by a loyal group of lifelong friends who supported Dan throughout his difficult illness.

We are especially grateful for Dan’s sister Molly, and caregiver Jargal Batmunkh who lived with and faithfully cared for Dan for several years.

Visitation will be held at Resurrection Catholic Parish (333 Hilltop Dr., Allouez, WI), Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue at the church, Monday, September 13, 2021 from 10 to 11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM with Fr. Tom Reynebeau, celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to The Association for FrontoTemporal Degeneration in Dan's name are appreciated.
