John married his high school sweetheart, Gwen Holznecht, Oct 6, 1951 before enlisting in the military. John enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country, stationed in Norfolk, VA, until his honorable discharge. After his military service, the family returned to Green Bay where John began working for the family business, W.J. LaFortune Sons, retiring at the young age of 77.
John was known as a kind and hard working man who was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. He was a proud family man and spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gwen; his daughters, Darien (Jeff) Parish and Lauren (John) Broskovetz; 2 grandchildren, Lauren (Charlie) Froelich and Samantha (Nick) Stellmacher; 2 great-grandsons, Ian and Myles Froelich; 2 brothers, Wendell (Janice) and Don (Mickey) LaFortune; nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his elder brother and business partner, Howard (Beverly) LaFortune.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave.), Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 4 to 6 PM. A funeral service will follow at 6 PM with Fr. Jim Feely officiating and full military honors.
John's family wishes to express their gratitude to Home Instead, especially Nolvia, as well as the staff at Unity Hospice, for their kindness, care and compassion.
