In Memory Of
Dr. Gregory E. Schoen Sr.
1949 - 2018

Dr. Gregory E. Schoen, Sr., DDS, aged 68, of Green Bay, unexpectedly went home to the Lord, Sunday, July 8, 2018.

He was born in Chicago, IL to the late Edward and Betty Jo (née Dynis) Schoen on September 22, 1949. A graduate of Mendel High School in Chicago, Gregory continued his education and received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from Loyola University. He went on to earn his Doctorate in Dentistry from Loyola University in 1975. He owned a private practice in Illinois for 23 years before relocating with his family to Wisconsin in 1998 where he continued his practice with Dental Associates, Bridge Clinic, and most recently, Partnership Community Health Center in Appleton.

Gregory married E. Melinda (née Gibson) on October 25, 1980 and were blessed with three children. Sadly, Melinda passed away July 9, 2002 after a battle with breast cancer. In 2004, Gregory married Karen (née Smith) on August 28, 2004 and were blessed with two children.

As a dentist, Gregory found it a privilege to serve the marginalized, poor, and medically underserved of our community through his practice. He helped many patients get a new smile through his excellent work and compassionate care. You often knew where “Dr. Greg” was by following the sound of him whistling or humming a tune as he worked on a patient or walked the halls. Gregory’s dedication to his patients and team made an immense difference in many lives. He was a truly intellectual man and was fortunate to share his ideas and gifts with others.

With a remarkable talent for renovation, Gregory worked alongside Karen in restoring their home. He enjoyed traveling, continuing his education, weight lifting, listening to classical music, and gardening. Gregory was a loyal and loving husband to both of his wives and cherished only the best for his children. He will be greatly missed by his patients, colleagues, family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Karen and their children: Matthew and Sophia. He is also survived by his children with Melinda: Gregory, Jr. and his partner, Casey; Jennifer, and her husband Gregg Johnson; and Kimberly; his brothers Jerry and his wife, Kathy, and Eddie and his wife, Julie; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 4 to 6 PM. A funeral service and celebration of Gregory's life will follow at 6 PM with Pastor Shawn Hennessey officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.

Gregory's family would like to extend a special thank you to the first responders at the Grand Chute Police Dept. and the Boys and Girls Club of Outagamie County for their assistance and support.
