John enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1952 and served his country as a military police officer until his honorable discharge in November of 1954. After his discharge from the Army, John was hired as a police officer for the Village of Denmark, where he met his wife, Grace A. Welsing. In 1958 he became an officer for the Brown County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1988 as a Captain.
After retiring from the Sheriff's Dept., John and Grace traveled between Wisconsin and Texas in their motor home, eventually purchasing homes in La Feria, TX and Sturgeon Bay, WI. They made many friends and enjoyed their excursions to Padre Island, Mexico, dining out and playing Bingo.
John is survived by his daughters, Lori J. Geyer and Lanette J. (Pat) Wildfong; 3 grandchildren: Joel (Brook) Aspenson, Rhiannon (Brian) Aspenson and Nicholas Wildfong and 9 great-grandchildren: Chase, Lillian, Wyatt, Riddik, Madelynn, Isabella, Eva, Sophia and Hazel. He is further survived by a son-in-law, Bob Valenta and his family; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; his eldest daughter, Lisa Valenta; his brother, Bob Geyer; sisters, Bernadine (Ralph) Ashton and Mona Fleming and other family members.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 3 to 4:30 PM. A memorial service will follow at 4:30 PM with full military honors.
John's family would like to extend their gratitude to Unity Hospice, especially Melissa, who went above and beyond to care for John and his entire family.
