Jean Marie Destiche, 87, Green Bay, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. She was born on November 5, 1927, in Shawano to the late Clarence and Hulda Nachtwey. On October 21, 1967, Jean married William P. “Bill” Destiche at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2007.
After graduating from Shawano High School, Jean relocated to Milwaukee, WI, to work as a bank clerk for M&I Bank. After several years there, she moved to Green Bay where she worked in various civil service roles for the Internal Revenue Service and Social Security offices. In 1967, she met Bill, married, and took on the challenging task of raising her 8 grateful step-children. She was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral for more than 50 years.
She loved caring for house plants, bingo, flowers and spending time with family.
Jean is survived by her eight step-children: Tina Mercier, Green Bay, WI; Barb (Joe) Mangi, Arlington Heights, IL; Sue (Kelly) Eichinger, Littleton, CO; Dan Destiche, San Diego, CA; Cindy Peters, Waukesha, WI; Greg (Mary) Destiche, Alpharetta, GA; Vicki Destiche, Green Bay, WI; Mike (Jamie) Destiche, Suamico, WI.
In addition, Jean is survived by 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dear friends and extended family members.
Preceding her in death are four half-brothers, one half-sister, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Gathering time with family and friends will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Avenue. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Father Joseph Dorner officiating. Entombment will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials will be used for Alzheimer's and cancer research.
A special Thank You to the loving personnel at Angel’s Touch/Angel’s on Arcadian, Odd Fellows Home, and Unity Hospice, Dr. Jonathon Tammela and his staff, as well as Dr. Fred Walbrun for their compassionate care.
