Joyce married Lawrence LuMaye, May 5, 1956. Joyce and Lawrence were married 18 years and welcomed 3 children: Mark, Lynne and Dan before Lawrence passed away in December of 1974. Joyce later married James "Jim" Berndt, July 14, 1977 in Manitowoc, WI. They shared 38 years of marriage and were blessed with a daughter, Lisa. Jim passed away in July of 2016.

Her strong will and determination guided her through her life as well as through a courageous battle with many types of cancer. Her greatest memories were those shared with her family.
