Mary Beth Mornard, 67, of De Pere, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital.
Mary was born on July 31, 1950 in Green Bay, WI, to Joseph and Jane (Kosnar) Mornard. She attended St. Phillip’s grade school and was a 1968 graduate of St. Joseph Academy. After high school, Mary graduated from beautician school in Green Bay. In 1980, she decided to follow her dream to be an engineer, and returned to college. In 1982, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from NWTC with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Design. The majority of her engineering career was spent at Valmet Appleton, where she worked until 2001. In later years, she worked at APAC until she retired.
Along with her love of engineering, Mary’s hobbies included painting, drawing, dancing, and woodworking, to name a few. Mary’s ideal summer evening was spent watching the sunset by the water, and her favorite place in the world was Door County. This love for the bay started as a child at her family’s cottage in Dyckesville, where she spent her summers swimming, fishing, playing in the sand, and running with the Seidls, Bolands, and other Sand Bar Beach kids until dark.
Mary had a special place in her heart for her granddaughters, and she relished every moment with them. She also had a soft spot for animals, and had many cherished pets over the years, many of whom she adopted from shelters.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Jenifer (Jini) Schmidt Mornard; granddaughters Madeline Chitwood and Sydney Shultz; brother Paul (Sue) Mornard; very special nieces Chris Heil and Cherie (Matthew) Bayer, and uncle Gerald Kosnar. She is further survived by her dear best friend, Joel Dziekan, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Daniel Chitwood, aunt Nancy (Lenz) Kosnar, uncle and aunt Elmer and Margaret Mornard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in her name.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27th from 2 PM – 4:30 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held following the visitation at the funeral home. In place of an individually-delivered eulogy, the family requests that the guests contribute short stories or statements in person at the service or via the Newcomer “share memories” page at www.NewcomerGreenBay.com.
