Rita "June" (McGonagle) Smith, age, 97, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017.

She was born on May 3, 1920 in Cambridge, MA, the daughter of Lawrence F. & Elva (Crane) McGonagle. June graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, MA in 1938 and in 1942 she graduated with a B.S. in Social Service from Emmanuel College, Boston, MA, where she was an avid tennis player and skier. In later years she enjoyed long nature walks, family genealogy research, needlework, visiting museums and attending concerts.

On December 19, 1944, June married Douglas Smith of Green Bay in Arlington, MA. When his WWII deployment was completed they moved to Green Bay where they raised three daughters.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley (Anthony) Primavera of Freedom, Dolores Fessler of Overland Park, KS, and Marjorie (Jeffrey) Allar of Austin, TX; four grandchildren, Michelle Orr, Scott Fessler, Gina (David) Richert, Lisa (James) Stabe; three great-grandchildren, James Orr, Kasey & Sawyer Richert.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas; brother, Lawrence B. McGonagle; and son-in-law, Paul Fessler.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on May 5, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the caring staff of Agewell Assisted Living, Bornemann Nursing Home and especially Aseracare Hospice who helped us through this final journey.
